Simon Fraser University has captured their 4th BC Intercollegiate Hockey Championship to cap off an undefeated 2021/22 season.
SFU, who last won in 2011, went 12-0 during regular season play and defeated VIU 6-3 and 2-0 during the BCIHL Championships.
The BCIHL's top two teams went head to head on championship Sunday in front of a lively SFU hometown crowd in Burnaby. Clarkson University transfer Nick Wicks opened the scoring in the 2nd period with a powerplay goal, while Selkirk College transfer Tristen Cross sealed the victory in the third period with SFU's 2nd goal of the afternoon.
VIU goaltender Derek Krall, who had an exceptional playoff series made 22 saves in the losing effort.
SFU's senior goaltender Michael Lenko, who went 6-0 with a 2.00 GAA and .948 SV% during the regular season, earned the shutout in his final game.
