SFU will look to grab the final spot in the 2024 BCIHL playoffs tonight.
Either a win by the Red Leafs or a loss of any kind by the Miners will land SFU in the 2024 BCIHL Playoffs, where they will look to defend their title for the third year in a row.
SFU will be facing off against UVic for the fifth and final time this year, and will look to improve their 1-2-1 head to head record and -9 goal differential against the Vikes on Friday night. The Red Leafs will also look to snap their 4 game losing streak, with the most recent addition to that streak coming last week in a 4-3 shootout loss in Logan Lake.
The Vikes are currently riding a 3 game win streak, with two of those last wins coming against the Red Leafs back on January 26th and 28th by scores of 4-1 and 9-2. UVic currently sits 3 points back of the VIU Mariners for top spot in the BCIHL, and with 4 games remaining they are the only other team with a chance to finish atop the standings at the end of the regular season.
VIU will head to the interior to kick off their weekend against the Logan Lake Miners in the clubs’ first matchup since November 25th, which ended in a 14-4 win for the Mariners. The top 3 scorers in the league and the league’s top goaltender now all come from VIU, with goaltender Jeremy Robar usurping the top spot with a .926 sv% over his last three starts.
Logan Lake will look to earn their second consecutive win in program history after last weekend’s 4-3 shootout victory in order to keep their playoff hopes alive one more day. Forward Gavin Mattey currently leads the Miners with 27 points, and sits in 4th in overall BCIHL scoring.
