About the BCIHL

ABOUT THE BCIHL

The BC Intercollegiate Hockey League was founded in 2006 as a provincial conference involving university and college club hockey teams. Over the years the BCIHL has established standards consistent with other hockey conferences across North America both at the club and varsity level. Past membership has included both clubs and varsity programs from SFU, TWU, UVIC, VIU, OC, UFV, TRU and Eastern Washington University.

Now in its 19th season, the BCIHL’s membership consists of competitive teams that share a common sport-club template promoting long-term viability, academic success and high community impact. Each BCIHL team recruits high-school student-athletes from junior hockey teams from across Canada and the US, creating opportunities in BC for players to supplement their post-secondary education with a highly valued competitive offering consistent with other collegiate hockey leagues. All BCIHL players are full-time students with a maximum of 5 years of eligibility, and since 2006 the BCIHL has graduated nearly 1,000 student-athletes. While some have gone on to play professional hockey, most have entered the workforce in engineering, trades, business, law, medicine and other professional fields. The BCIHL experience has proven highly valuable to its student-athletes, and BCIHL Alumni often stay connected to their university and college programs, giving back as donors or volunteers to help the next wave of student-athletes succeed.
