The Red Leafs will look to return to .500 in the standings after dropping Friday’s game 4-1 against the UVic Vikes. While the team will get another opportunity this weekend to split the weekend series with the Vikes, SFU will first face the first place VIU Mariners on Saturday night, who are currently riding a 6-game win streak. The Mariners currently hold a 3-0 season series advantage over the Red Leafs, and it will take a full team effort for SFU to avoid being swept.

The 6-game winning streak by the Mariners has been fuelled by offensive domination, as the top 4 scorers in the BCIHL, and 5 of the top 10, currently reside on VIU’s roster. VIU has outscored their opponents 43-18 in their last 6 games, and have given themselves a comfortable 3-point lead over the second place UVic Vikes heading into Saturday’s matchup.

In Kelowna, the Miners will face the Lakers for the final time this season after a heartbreaking 6-5 loss on Friday night where the Lakers tied the game and took the lead in the final two minutes of the third period. Logan Lake continues to make strides to be a strong competitor in the BCIHL, but time is running out for the Miners to make the playoffs.

Okanagan, on the other side of the rink, will look to be the first team to sweep a season series this year with a victory over the Miners. The Lakers currently sit in third place in the BCIHL standings with a game in hand and a 4-point gap between them and the second place Vikes, and barring a collapse from either end, these teams will be battling it out for points right to the end of the season for home-ice advantage in the playoffs.
