The British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League has unveiled its award winners for February/March 2020:
Player of the Month – Logan Casavant, Trinity Western University
A second-year player for the Spartans, Casavant led all BCIHL scorers in league games during February, tallying four goals and seven assists in eight games. He had four multi-point efforts, including two games where he tallied a goal and two assists in each of them. The 22-year-old Nipawin Hawks alum finished the season tied for second in league scoring with 34 points, one back of teammate Evan Last.
Defenceman of the Month – Elijah Vilio, Trinity Western University
Now in his third BCIHL season with the Spartans, Vilio is a key contributor to Trinity Western at both ends of the ice. The 22-year-old from Aldergrove, BC posted two goals and four assists in six games during February. He started the month with a goal against Vancouver Island University on February 1 and also posted a four point night on February 8 against UVIC. Coming off a BCIHL Player of the Month award in January, Vilio led all defencemen in scoring with 27 points this season and finished sixth overall.
Goaltender of the Month – Matt Huber, Vancouver Island University
Huber’s performance to wrap up the regular season helped keep the Mariners in the hunt for second place in the BCIHL standings. The 22-year-old Calgary product went 3-1 during February and March with a 3.71 goals-against-average along with being named second star for a 28 save effort on February 29. Prior to March 7, Huber hadn't allowed more than two goals in any of his three previous appearances and they were each wins.
Rookie of the Month – Takato Cox, Simon Fraser University
The 22-year-old veteran of nearly 100 NCDC games with the Connecticut Jr. Rangers had a solid impact in his first BCIHL season. Cox had two mult-point efforts during February and March, racking up four goals and three assists. His month featured a hat trick against Selkirk on February 15.
