Simon Fraser University put themselves in the best possible position to claim second spot in the B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League standings when they wrap the season on Saturday, scoring early and often in a 7-2 victory over the University of Victoria at the Ian Stewart Complex.

After a quiet opening 10 minutes the goals came in a flurry, with Christian Bosa, Eric Callegari and McKullen Astill all scoring for SFU to open a commanding lead. But Joe Olson struck with four seconds remaining in the frame to draw the Vikes back within two.

The Clan took control early in the second, however, as Ty Westgard, Arjun Badh and Jacob Lacasse extended the lead to five with a trio of goals in the span of 2:46. Caleb Griffin and Arjan Cheema traded goals the rest of the way but Victoria wouldn't come close to making the Clan uncomfortable for the remainder of the game.

Andrew Henderson stopped 32 shots in the SFU crease for his sixth win of the season while Daniel Paul was relieved after the Clan's sixth goal and replaced by Niall Murphy, who made 12 saves on 13 shots.

With the win, SFU heads into Nanaimo on Saturday two points up on Vancouver Island University and will need just a single point to clinch second place and home ice in the first round playoff series between the teams. Gametime is set for 8:00 PM and will be streamed live on Hockey TV.
