The BC Intercollegiate Hockey League announced today that University of Victoria forward Carter Huber is the BCIHL Player of the Week for the period ending March 1, 2020.
Huber had two goals and two assists in two games as the Vikes snapped a five-game losing streak with a win over Selkirk College and a shootout loss to Vancouver Island University.
The Calgary product had an assist on a first period power play goal by Callum Volpe and then scored himself less than seven minutes later as UVic opened a 3-1 lead. He added another assist in the third period as the Vikes romped to a 9-4 victory over the Saints on Saturday.
The 23-year-old opened the scoring for UVic on Sunday just 26 seconds into the middle frame. Huber also scored the Vikes lone goal in the shootout in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Mariners.
The former Okotoks Oilers captain snapped a four-game pointless skid in the process and now has 11 points in 22 games for UVic this season, his second in the BCIHL. Huber, a veteran of 151 career AJHL games, has seven goals this season and is just two back of his BCIHL career high set last season as a rookie.
Honourable mentions for this week's BCIHL Player of the Week include Selkirk College forward Dylan Heppler (one goal, two assists in two games), Vancouver Island University forward Garrett Dunlop (one goal, two assists in two games), University of Victoria forward Kenny Britton (two goals, one assist in two games), Simon Fraser University defenceman Domenic Masellis (one goal, one assist in one game) and Trinity Western University forward Evan Last (one goal, one assist in one game).
