Ledyard's two-goal night lifts SFU to overtime victory over Selkirk College

Ledyard's two-goal night lifts SFU to overtime victory over Selkirk College

Mitch Ledyard's game winner 3:49 into overtime was the difference as Simon Fraser University began their two-game weekend series in Castlegar with a 4-3 victory over Selkirk College on Friday night.

Ledyard also opened the scoring just 96 seconds into regulation off a feed from Ty Westgard that would be the first of three assists on the night for the rookie forward. The lead held until midway through the second period when Garrett Hilton tied the game for the home side.

SFU would retake the lead early in the third when Takato Cox scored his first B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League goal and quickly build a two-goal advantage when Westgard scored less than two minutes later. But a late Selkirk push forced extra time, as Tristen Cross scored with 5:10 remaining on a Saints powerplay and Johnny Foley netted the equalizer with 2:30 left on the clock.

Westgard finished the game with a goal and three helpers, marking the first four-point game of his BCIHL career. Mac Colasimone and Ledyard each had two points nights.

Patrick Zubick made 33 saves and picked up the victory in his return to his hometown of Castlegar, where he spent two seasons as a Saint. His former creasemate, Tallon Kramer, faced 38 shots in the loss.

With the win, the Clan move a point up on Selkirk and into sole possession of third place in the league standings.

The teams will conclude their two-game weekend series on Saturday night at the Castlegar Recreation Centre. Faceoff is set for 7:00 PM and the game will be broadcast live on Hockey TV.
