TWU forward Josh Bruce named ANYTHING BRANDED Player of the Week

The BC Intercollgiate Hockey League announced today that Trinity Western University forward Josh Bruce is the ANYTHING BRANDED BCIHL Player of the Week for the period ending November 10, 2019.

Bruce had six points (one goal, five assists) for the Spartans on the weekend as TWU kept its perfect start to the season intact with a sixth and seventh straight victory.

On Friday, the Surrey, BC product set up the Spartans’ first goal of the game from Jarret Fontaine 3:26 into the first period in what would stand as the winning goal in a 7-0 drubbing of Selkirk College. Bruce also added an assist in each of the second and third periods.

The 21-year-old scored the 1-1 goal for Trinity Western late in the second period on Saturday in the return match-up against the Saints. Bruce then added a third period assist and helped set up Elijah Vilio’s overtime winner as the Spartans edged Selkirk College 4-3.

Bruce, who is a veteran of 110 BC Hockey League games, is now tied for second in scoring on TWU and fourth in the BCIHL this season. He’s among the hottest players in the league with nine points (2-7-9) in his last three games and his 14 points (5-9-14) is tops in the league among rookies.

Honourable mentions for this week's BCIHL Player of the Week include Trinity Western University goaltender Lucas Mills (2-0, 1.48 GAA, .960 SV%), Simon Fraser University forward Ty Westgard (2-1-3), Selkirk College forward Jaiden LaPorte (0-2-2), Vancouver Island University defenceman Garrett Murray (2-0-2) and University of Victoria goaltender Tyler Rennie (0-1, 3.05 GAA, .929 SV%).
