Kyle Bergh, Jake Keremidschieff and Mac Colasimone all scored on Saturday night as Simon Fraser University skated to a 3-0 victory over the University of Victoria at the Bill Copeland Sports Centre.
The Clan outshot their visitors by a 24-11 margin in the first period, but it wasn't until 2:37 left in the second period that Bergh broke the ice when he beat Vikes starter Daniel Paul.
Keremidschieff and Colasimone scored three minutes apart in the third period to extend the SFU lead to three, and Victoria was unable to beat Clan netminder Andrew Henderson. The first-year goaltender made 25 saves for the shutout in his first-ever B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League start.
Neither team was able to capitalize with the man-advantage, as SFU finished 0 for 6 and the Vikes went 0 for 2.
With the win, the Clan move to 2-0-0-1 on the season and sit in a tie for third in the BCIHL standings with the Vikes at 2-4-0-1. SFU is back in action on Thursday when they renew their Lower Mainland rivalry with Trinity Western, while UVic returns home to host Selkirk College on Friday.
