Vancouver Island University struck for five power-play goals on Saturday night and shut down the University of Victoria offence for much of the night, capturing a 7-2 victory at the Nanaimo Ice Centre.

Three-time BCIHL all-star Dallas Calvin led the way offensively for the Mariners, scoring twice with the man-advantage while adding three assists for his first five-point game since joining VIU this summer.

The Vikes opened the scoring midway through the first period when Blake Holoway capitalized with VIU's Liam Cumberbirch in the penalty box. But Gavin Rauser equalized before intermission and the Mariners took the game over with with ununaswered goals in the second period.

Calvin began the onslaught with his second goal of the season early in the frame and struck again five minutes later. Gage Colpron extended the lead to three with VIU's third power-play marker in less than eight minutes and Dylan McCann scored at even strength with 4:52 remaining.

Alex Milligan and UVic's Carter Huber traded goals midway through the third but Brett Witala scored on yet another man-advantage opportunity late in regulation to put the finishing touches on the win.

Milligan scored once and added three assists, while Witala had his fifth multi-point game of the season and extended his point-scoring streaj to seven games.

Brett Clark picked up his fourth victory in six starts for VIU, turning aside 25 shots on the night. Michael Fredrick made 27 saves and took the loss for the Vikes.

Both teams are back in action hosting Simon Fraser University next weekend. Victoria takes on the Clan at 7:30 PM on Friday before SFU heads to Nanaimo to face VIU at 7:15 PM on Saturday.
