Mitch Newsome scored his second goal of the night in overtime on Saturday to give Simon Fraser University a 5-4 win over Selkirk College at the Bill Copeland Sports Centre in Burnaby.
Newsome capitalized on a power-play set-up from Graham Smerek to give the Clan the extra point after Selkirk's Vince Bitonti had been whistled down for high-sticking early in the extra frame.
The Clan managed to get the game past regulation after coming back from four separate deficits. The Saints had taken a two-goal lead after 20 minutes on goals from Parker Wakaruk and Dylan Heppler, but Newsome's first of the game brought SFU back within one as time wore down in the second period.
That set up a wild third that saw Jaret Babych tie the game early on before Bitonti and Nolan Precival twice gave the Saints one-goal leads they wouldn't be able to hold on to. Mathew Berry-Lamontagna evened the score midway through the period, and Mac Colasimone later tied the game at 4-4 with 3:53 remaining to send the game to overtime.
Berry-Lamontagna netted three points from the Clan blueline while Newsome, Colasimone, Babych, Smerek and Darnel St. Pierre all had two-point outings. Heppler responded with a goal and an assist for Selkirk.
Ryan Sandrin stopped 20 shots to pick up his second win in as many nights, while Patrick Zubick made 39 saves in the loss.
SFU will host first place Vancouver Island University for a pair of home games next weekend, while Selkirk will return to Castlegar and prepare to welcome the University of Victoria for a two-game set on Nov. 2 & 3.
