Former OCN defenceman Yaremko transfers to UVic from ACHA Jamestown

The University of Victoria is pleased to announce that defenseman Hayden Yaremko has committed to the Vikes for 2018/19 B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League season.

Yaremko transfers to UVic from the University of Jamestown, where he suited up for the school's ACHA Division 1 hockey program. Before joining the Jimmies, he played 102 games of Junior A hockey over three seasons with the MJHL's OCN Blizzard from 2014-17.

"Hayden keeps it simple and does all of the small things well," says former Blizzard head coach Doug Hedley of the defensive-minded blueliner. "His quiet leadership and play on the ice were one of the reasons why we went on such a long playoff run a couple of years ago."

The 20-year old joined Jamestown last fall and appeared in 14 regular season games, picking up two assists.

"I'm very excited about the chance to play hockey at the University of Victoria in the fall," says Yaremko. "I'm grateful to have the opportunity to continue my hockey career, but also to further my education at such a great school in a beautiful part of the country. I'm very excited about joining the team and looking forward to meeting everyone and moving to Victoria."

May is the Vikes' fourth commitment of 2018, joining forwards Branden Voss (Drayton Valley, AJHL) and Eddie May (kindersley, SJHL), as well as defenceman Brody Jennings (English River, SIJHL).
