Eastern Washington University forward Brett Mathews is the ANYTHING BRANDED Player of the Week for the week ending February 18th.
The 24-year-old from Bonner, Montana had two power play assists on Friday as the Eagles came close to battling back from a 3-1 deficit to tie the game against the University of Victoria. EWU would end up falling 3-2 despite outshooting the Vikes 19-6 in the third period.
Mathews added a goal and three assists on Saturday as Eastern spotted Vancouver Island University a 3-0 lead before outscoring the Mariners 3-1 in the final two periods in a close 5-4 loss.
The former Missoula Maulers captain has set a career high in points in the BCIHL with six goals and 19 assists in 23 games. Mathews has also moved into sixth in league scoring this season, 11 points back of leader Dallas Calvin of Selkirk College.
Runners up for this week's ANYTHING BRANDED POW award include University of Victoria goaltender Zack Wear, Simon Fraser University defenceman Austin Adam, Eastern Washington University forward Beau Walker, Trinity Western University forward Evan Last, Selkirk College forward Jack Mills, and Vancouver Island University forward Kobe Oishi.
