Selkirk College and Vancouver Island University each made big gains in meeting their respective postseason goals this weekend.
VIU swept their home-and-home series against the University of Victoria to all but wrap up fourth place and a spot in the BCIHL playoffs in their inaugural season. The Islanders now sit on 18 points through 17 games, good for a 10-point gap on fifth place UVic. VIU's magic number to clinch a playoff spot in now two points.
Selkirk College kept the heat on first place Trinity Western on Saturday night with an overtime win over SFU, clawing back to within two points of the league leaders with both teams having five regular season games remaining. The Spartans were idle on the weekend.
Simon Fraser may have lost in Castlegar, but the single point picked up in that game puts them five points ahead of VIU for third spot. They look unlikely to make up the seven-point gap on Selkirk for second place but they do hold a game in hand.
Eastern Washington was eliminated from playoff contention with their loss to SFU on Friday night.
