Newcomers Arcuri, Styler lead Selkirk College to weekend sweep of Eagles

Selkirk College and Eastern Washington University combined for six power-play goals on Sunday, but it was the Saints' four-goal outburst in the second period that lifted the visitors to a 6-3 victory over the Eagles in Cheney on Sunday afternoon.

Newcomers Cole Arcuri, with two goals and an assist, and Logan Styler, with four helpers, led the way offensively for Selkirk in a game where they directed 50 shots on Eagles starter Austin Brihn.

EWU has secured a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes as man-advantage goals from Austin Breen and Joseph Porco sandwiched an Arcuri marker. But the Saints piled on in the second with Arcuri's second of the night followed by goals from Jonas Horvath, Jack Mills and Dane Feeney.

Beau Walker brought Eastern within two early in the third, but Selkirk restored their three-goal cushion when Parker Wakaruk was set up by Mills and Derek Georgopoulos for their third power play tally of the day.

Patrick Zubick picked up the win in goal with a 30-save performance while Brihn stopped 44 shots in the loss.

The Eagles top line of Walker, Colton St. John and Brett Mathews combined for five points in a game where the hosts finished 3-for-9 with the man advantage. Selkirk scored three times on seven opportunities.

Eastern will try to keep their playoff hopes alive on Friday when Simon Fraser University visits for a 7:30 PM faceoff. The Clan will then head to Castlegar to battle the Saints on Saturday at 7:00 PM.
