UVic alum & former BCIHL MVP Shawn Mueller embarks on pro career in Sweden

The University of Victoria is proud to announce that recently-graduated forward Shawn Mueller has signed a contract to play professional hockey with Kalmar HC in Sweden.

Founded in 1968, the team is located in the city of Kalmar in the southern part of Sweden and plays in the country's second division.

Kalmar HC is off to a strong start, having posted a record of 7-2-0-0 through the end of October, and Mueller has been a key contributor as a rookie. He has posted two goals and five points in those nine games.

"We're very proud of Shawn and all his accomplishments," says UVic head coach Harry Schamhart. "Shawn was a tremendous player and leader for our program for five season and we wish him the best for his first season in Europe."

The Kitimat, BC product is one of the BCIHL's most decorated players, having captured league MVP honours for the 2015/16 season as well as first-team all-star nods in 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2017.

He is also the BCIHL's all-time leader in regular season games played (119) and goals (69), while his 157 career points place him in a tie for second behind former SFU standout Jono Ceci.

Mueller capped his university hockey career in perfect fashion in March, leading the Vikes to their fifth BCIHL championship when he scored the game-winner with less than eight seconds remaining in the deciding game against Trinity Western.
