WEEKEND PREVIEW
Friday, Feb. 10 vs. Selkirk (10-7-0-1) – 7 p.m. (PT)

THE WEEKEND STORY

• The Spartans are looking to snap a three-game losing streak this weekend as they host Selkirk, who has lost two in a row, in a critical late-season contest.
• With TWU and Selkirk battling for second in the BCIHL and Friday’s game being their final meeting of the regular season, the result could weigh heavil on their playoff positioning.
• The Saints are three points behind the Spartans with six games remaining in the season for both sides.
• Friday’s contest will also finalize the season series result between the two teams, which is the first tiebreaker if they finish with the same number of points. TWU is 3-2-0-0 while Selkirk is 2-2-0-1. A regulation win for either team would give them the season series. However, a Saints win in overtime would leave the teams tied.
• The last time these two teams met, TWU won 7-6 in overtime. Jamey Kreller, who will miss his fifth straight game due to a knee injury, scored the overtime winner.
• The Spartans and Saints have each scored 16 goals in their season series.
• Friday night will mark the Spartans Cody Stephenson’s 100th game in the BCIHL. He will move into a tie for fifth in the BCIHL’s all-time games played list. Amongst Spartans, he only trails Trevor Beaupre, who finished his career third in league history, having played 108 games.
• TWU leading scorer Evan Last will be out for Friday’s game due to a three-game suspension he incurred after receiving a match penalty in the Spartans last game.
• The Spartans Jarrett Fontaine, who is second in team scoring, tallied his first goal last Saturday against Eastern Washington since returning from an injury. His return to action on Feb. 2 marked his first game since Dec. 3. The last time Fontaine played Selkirk, he had a five-point night, including three goals and two assists.
• TWU is 16-12-5 all-time against Selkirk.
• Due to injury, Selkirk’s leading scorer Dallas Calvin, who had seven goals and 13 assists in 12 games, hasn’t played since Nov. 26. Wade Johnson and Ryan Edwards are tied for second in team scoring with six goals and 11 assists each.
• TWU will honour its graduating seniors Friday night in a special pregame ceremony. The senior athletes include Lucas Hildebrand, Aaron Gruenhage, Cody Stephenson, Jamey Kreller, Brett Wur, Silas Matthys, Riley Schmidt and Andrew Wheeler.
