EWU's Brihn named Player of the Week following first BCIHL shutout

Eastern Washington University goaltender Austin Brihn has been named the British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League's Player of the Week for the week ending Janury 22nd.

The Eagles netminder collected his first-ever BCIHL shutout with 23 saves in an 8-0 victory over the University of Victoria. The game was more than just a typical blowout, as it marked the Eagles' first win of the 2016/17 regular season following an 0-13 start.

Brihn was tested early in the game with 19 shots through two periods but held strong while his teammates built up a 6-0 lead after 40 minutes. He held the Vikes power-play scoreless on four attempts.

The shutout marked the first in 40 BCIHL appearances over parts of the three seasons for the Mukilteo, WA product.

Runners up for this week's award include Simon Fraser University forward Daniell Lange, Selkirk College forward Ryan Edwards and Eastern Washington University defenceman Tanner Hawes.
