Playing their only game of the weekend on Saturday night in Castlegar, Selkirk College kept pace with league-leading SFU by picking up a dominating 6-1 victory over the University of Victoria.
The Saints took a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes on goals from Garrett Halls and Dane Feeney before widening their lead to 5-1 after 40 minutes on markers from Brady Ward, Ryan Edwards and Troy Maclise. Wade Johnson capped the scoring for the hosts in the third while Shane Kumar scored the lone Victoria marker.
The game was played primarily in the Vikes zone, as Selkirk built leads of 14-2 and 27-8 in shots on goal after the first and second periods respectively.
Brett Huber breezed to the win with a 13-save performance while Zack Wear allowed five goals on 27 shots before giving way to Michael Fredrick for the remainder of the game.
With back-to-back losses, the Vikes will be looking to take care of business next weekend during a two-game homestand against Eastern Washington or risk falling into a battle for the league's fourth and final playoff spot.
The Saints, meanwhile, are off next weekend before embarking on a two-game coastal road swing to face Victoria and Simon Fraser. Selkirk currently sits five points back of the Clan with a game in hand.
