Nipawin blueliner Piattelli commits to Clan for 2016/17 season

Simon Fraser University is proud to introduce Jayden Piattelli as the second member of the Clan's 2016/17 recruiting class.

Piattelli joins SFU after wrapping up his Junior career with the Nipawin Hawks of the SJHL. He brings over 230 games of Junior “A” experience to what will be a very strong group of defensemen for SFU.

“There’s not enough good words to describe Jayden,” said Nipawin Hawks Head Coach Doug Johnson. “He’s one of those players who will do everything he can do be successful, he’s a phenomenal player and a great person”.

“On the ice he works incredibly hard, and he’s a physical specimen that will do whatever it takes to win a hockey game.”

The Calgary, Alberta native split his junior career between the Calgary Canucks of the AJHL and the Nipawin Hawks.

When asked to describe his game Piattelli said, "Many would describe me as a defensive defenseman with the abilities to contribute offensively. I have strong skating skills, and that combined with my size allows me to shut down other teams top players, or spark my team with a big hit.”

SFU Head Coach Mark Coletta continues to build a team that will be successful on the ice, and full of character off of it.

“Jayden is a very smart kid, he’s a tremendous student so his off-ice adjustment to the classroom should be no problem. You always want character and good people, Jayden is one of those guys.”

When asked how Jayden will help the team on the ice Coletta added: "He’ll be a great addition to the back end, he’s big and moves the puck extremely well."

Jayden is the second recruit for the 2016-17 season for SFU.

The Clan are poised to have a very strong recruiting class as they look to bounce back after a disappointing end to 2015/16. Piattelli also continues the pipeline of talent to SFU from the Nipawin Hawks. Current defenceman Jesse Williamson played for the Hawks from 2011-2013, while retiring captain Jono Ceci played for them from 2009-2011.
