NCAA D1 transfer Scott Patterson joins SFU from Lake Superior State

NCAA D1 transfer Scott Patterson joins SFU from Lake Superior State

SFU Men's Hockey

Simon Fraser University is excited to announce the commitment of NCAA Division 1 transfer Scott Patterson as part of the team's 2016/17 recruiting class. Patterson joins SFU after spending two seasons with the Lake Superior State Lakers, where he played in 32 games.

Before playing in the NCAA, Patterson was a BCHL stand-out with the Merritt Centennials. During his time in the BCHL, Patterson put up 82 points (40g 42a) in 115 games, with his best season coming in 2013/14 where he had 53 points (27g 26a) in 58 games, which earned him a scholarship to Lake Superior State University in Michigan.

It's his scoring ability that SFU will be counting on in the upcoming season, and Head Coach Mark Coletta couldn't be happier to have him on board.

"When you have an opportunity to add a D1 player to your team, it's a pretty easy decision. We look for Scott to bring not only his offensive skills, but as a D1 transfer, we expect him to bring that culture and identity to the team."

As Coach Coletta looks to build a winning culture both on and off the ice, Patterson fits the mold of a player who will do whatever is needed to succeed, which is something that was noted by his coach at Lake Superior, Damon Whitten.

"Coming into last season you could see that he put in a ton of work in the summer to be physically prepared, he totally reshaped his body."

Patterson, a North Vancouver native, is excited to be joining Simon Fraser and playing at home.

"I had a couple options for where I wanted to play, but I felt SFU would be the best fit, and I had heard great things about the program and the school from guys on the team I grew up playing with."

When asked to describe what his goals are for the coming season he added, "I ultimately want to win a BCIHL championship with SFU, but in order to do that I need to be the best I can in every aspect of the game."

Patterson also noted that he had received an offer to play professional hockey, but will explore those opportunities after graduating from SFU. He will be working towards a degree in Business Administration with a Marketing concentration.

Scott is the third recruit for the 2016-17 season for SFU. He is the latest NCAA Division 1 transfer to join SFU Hockey, and first since Nick Sandor and Jared Eng wrapped up their SFU college careers with the Clan in 2015.
