Kindersley forward Sam Chatterley commits to Simon Fraser for 2016/17

Simon Fraser University is proud to announce that Sam Chatterley will be the fourth commitment of an extremely strong 2016/17 recruiting class. A product of the Semiahmoo Minor Hockey association, Chatterley joins the Clan after wrapping up his junior career as an assistant captain with the Kindersley Klippers of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League.

Sam spent the past two seasons playing Junior A hockey where he split his time between the Surrey Eagles and Kindersley. During that time he collected 25 points (11g 14a) in 90 games. Chatterley is a forward who is known for his defensive responsibility.

"I model my game after Wayne Simmonds," says Chatterley. "I like to play a hard-nosed physical game, I take pride in my defensive zone skills and try to make sure I rarely get scored on."

On the offensive side of the puck you can expect to see him battling in the corners and getting to the dirty areas in front of the net. Chatterley is expected to add some grit to the line up, and make life miserable for opposing players.

Assistant Coach Tom Spencer coached Sam in Major Midget and had this to say about his game: "Sam is the type of player you're happy to have on your team, but is a real handful to play against."

With the departure of Saylor Preston and Matthew Luongo this past season, there will be a need for players who will be able to get under opponents' skin. As has been a theme with all their recruits, Head Coach Mark Coletta has been looking for players who are willing to do whatever is needed to win.

"He's a big body that plays on the edge and we know he's willing to do whatever it takes to be in the line-up and help the team win each night."

Sam is the fourth recruit for the 2016/17 season for SFU. Chatterley will be the fourth member of the Clan from Surrey, joining Mac Barden, Jordan Liem, and Tyler Basham.

With the addition of Chatterley, all three minor hockey associations in Surrey (Surrey, Cloverdale, Semiahmoo) will be represented on the team this season.
