Eagles add NCAA defenceman Blondin on transfer from St. mary's University

Eastern Washington University is pleased to announce to commitment of defenceman Kyle Blondin (Kent, WA) for the 2016/17 B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League season.

The 6-foot-2 blueliner brings a wealth of experience to the EWU roster, including two seasons spent at the NCAA Division III level with St. Mary’s University.

The graduation of seniors Chase Wharton and Josh Rolfe will put Blondin in a position to see big minutes next year.

“We're very excited to have Kyle commit to our program," says Eagles head coach Jason Greenwell. "We know he brings a lot to our blueline and will have an immediate impact. With the departure of Chase and Josh we know we have big shoes to fill and we believe Kyle’s NCAA experience will be valuable. This is the beginning of a strong offseason for our hockey club”.

Blondin is a veteran of 193 junior hockey games prior to his time at St. Mary’s. During his 20-year old season he served as the captain of the Lake Tahoe Blue of the Western State Hockey League. His final two season of junior hockey saw him post 7 goals and 41 points while playing the big minutes he will be counted on for at EWU.

“I am very excited to becoming to EWU. It was a difficult choice a couple of years ago, but now I am home. The level of hockey at EWU and the staff here are second to none,” said Blondin.
