The British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League has unveiled its award winners for the month of February. Statistical totals include games played the weekend of March 4/5.
Player of the Month - Carsen Willans, University of Victoria
Willans helped the Vikes close out the regular season on a league-best five-game winning streak that included big road wins over TWU and SFU. The second-year forward picked up a goal and a BCIHL-leading nine assists in six games to close out the season, highlighted by four helpers and a first star nod in a 6-1 road win over Trinity Western on March 4th. His strong offensive finish to the regular season saw him crack the Top-10 in league scoring, as he finished 8th with 24 points.
Defenceman of the Month - Matthew Berry-Lamontanga, Simon Fraser University
Berry-Lamontanga turned in one of the most impressive offensive performances by a blueliner in BCIHL history on February 5th when he scored a hat trick and totaled six points en route to first star homours in a 10-5 road win over TWU. He also scored goals in three of SFU's other six games for the month and finished the regular season tied for first in goals and second in points amongst BCIHL defencemen with eight and 20 respectively.
Goaltender of the Month - James Prigione, Selkirk College
Prigione is a back-to-back winner of the award after another excellent month during which he led the Saints' to a first place regular season finish. His 3-0-0-1 record on the month included a pair of crucial victories over SFU, who Selkirk eventually overtook for first, including a 22-save shutout on the road February 26th. He finished the month with league-leading numbers in goals-against average (1.71) and save-percentage (.941).
Rookie of the Month - Bo Sigurdson, University of Victoria
Sigurdson finished his first BCIHL regular season as one of the hottest forwards in the league, scoring six goals and totaling 10 points in six February and March games. The Morden, MB product scored twice and was named the game's second star in a 6-1 road win over TWU and put forward three more multi-point performances on the month. He closed out the regular season on a seven-game points streak that accounted for 11 of his 14 points on the season.
