Eastern Washington University has made coaching change, elevating Jason Greenwell to Head Coach replacing Bret Kellogg.
Greenwell had been an Assistant Coach with the Eagles since the beginning of the 2014/15 season. He takes over the team under an agreement that extends through the end of the 2016-17 campaign.
Associate Coach Pat Hanlon remains on the staff in his current role.
"First off, I’d like to thank Bret Kellogg for his time with the club and his contributions to the program,"
Eagles general manager Bill Shaw said of making the change.
“It had become clear that we needed a change and giving a passionate voice like Jason should bring that change. His growth over the past year and a half has been impressive and I have full confidence that Jason and Pat can make a positive impact during the second half of the season."
Outside of Greenwell’s experience at EWU he also brings spring hockey coaching experience and has connections with many players entering their college eligibility.
“I’m very excited for the opportunity to take the next step in my coaching career," says Greenwell. "I’ve been in contact with my former coaches as well as some current coaches in other leagues and got some great advice and new ideas to bring back to the players. I feel with a few tweaks we can surprise people in the second half of the season.”
The Eagles will return to action after Christmas break on January 6th when they host the Williston State College Tetons at 7:30 PM. They will host Simon Fraser University on January 8th and 9th as well before heading to the BCIHL Showcase the following weekend in Burnaby, B.C.
