The British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League has unveiled its award winners for the month of November, including games played December 4th and 5th.
Player of the Month - Jamie Vlanich, Selkirk College
After appearing in just five games as a rookie due to a recovery from injury, Vlanich has stepped up his offensive game in his first full season with the Saints. He led all BCIHL skaters in November with five goals & 10 points, highlighted by a 4-point effort in a win over UVic. He also chipped in multi-point games against the Vikes and EWU, and failed to hit the scoresheet just once in six games.
Defenceman of the Month - Ryan Bakken, Trinity Western University
The former Langley Rivermen standout has been a force at both ends of the ice for the Spartans. He scored once and picked up five assists in five November games, including a two-point effort in a crucial home win over Selkirk College. He also helped anchor a TWU blueline that -- along with netminders Silas Matthys and Aaron Oakley -- conceded just 10 goals in five games to close out the fall semester.
Goaltender of the Month - Silas Matthys, Trinity Western University
Matthys was dominant in his four November starts, allowing two or fewer goals against in each appearance. He opened the month with 47 saves on 48 shots in a win over EWU, and his only loss came in a shootout vs. SFU after he turned aside 39 of 41 shots in regulation and overtime. Overall, he posted three wins as well as league-bests in goals-against average (1.71) and save-percentage (.956).
Rookie of the Month - Brendan Lamont, Simon Fraser University
A top scorer with the Coquitlam Express in the BCHL last season, Lamont found his stride offensively in November to the tune of seven points in just five games. He began the month with a goal and an assist in a narrow road loss to TWU and went on to post two more multi-point games, including a goal and two helpers in a big 8-2 home ice win over Selkirk College to close out the Clan's 2015 schedule.
