Selkirk College continued to have Eastern Washington University's number early in the BCIHL season, scoring three unanswered goals in the third period en route to a combeack win on the road in Cheney, WA.
Down 3-1 heading into the final frame, Selkirk found the offence they needed from second-year forward Matt Martin. The 22-year old brought the Saints within one at the 17:58 mark of the period and then tied the game with 11:14 remaining in regulation.
Ryon Sookro then built on Selkirk's new-found momentum, scoring the go-ahead goal just 35 seconds later to secure the Saints' third consecutive win over EWU so far this season.
The Eagles had taken control of the game in the second following a scoreless first period, as goals from Brett Mathews, Ty Flynn and Beau Walker sandwiched an Alex Milligan power-play marker for the visitors.
James Prigione made 28 saves for the Saints and picked up the win, but had to leave the game midway through the third period. Brett Huber came in in relief and stopped both shots he faced. Meanwhile, Austin Brihn allowed four goals on 28 shots in the loss.
Selkirk continues to sit atop the BCIHL standings with a 7-2-0 record while Eastern Washington (2-7-0, 5th Place) is now mired in a five-game losing streak. The teams will meet again next Saturday, once again at the EWU Recreation Complex in Cheney.
