All five B.C Intercollegiate Hockey League teams are in action this weekend with a pair of games on tap on Friday and Saturday nights.
Eastern Washington University (2-4-0-0, 5th Place):The Eagles head west on their second Lower Mainland road swing of the season, visiting TWU on Friday and SFU on Saturday. EWU split the trip with a loss in Langley and a win in Burnaby three weeks ago, and will look for secondary scoring beyond second-year forward Beau Walker -- who has scored 9 of the team's 17 goals -- in order to jump back into a playoff position. Austin Brihn (1-2-0-0, 3.96, .878) and Tyler O'Donnell (1-2-0-0, 4.48, .831) have been splitting netminding duties through six games.
Selkirk College (4-2-0-0, 1st Place):The Saints are coming off a pair of lopsided home wins the past two weekends, having beat EWU by a 9-2 score and SFU by a 5-0 margin. This weekend they'll host UVic for a pair of games in Castlegar less than a month after the teams split a 2-game series on Vancouver Island. Former KIJHL teammates Dallas Calvin and Ryan Edwards have once again formed a dynamic duo at Selkirk, as they sit first and third in league scoring with a combined 11 goals and 27 points.
Simon Fraser University (3-2-0-0, 3rd Place):The Clan will look to rebound from a shutout loss at the hands of Selkirk College when they host EWU in Burnaby on Saturday night. Much of the attention surrounding SFU revolves around team captain Jono Ceci, who sits just four points back of all-time BCIHL scoring leader Robert Vos. Meanwhile, second-year winger Tyler Basham is enjoying a breakout season with a team-best 7 points through 5 games while NCAA transfer Jaret Babych leads all goal scorers with 4.
Trinity Western University (3-2-0-0, 2nd Place):The Spartans will look to beat EWU for the second time in three home games on Friday when the Eagles begin a road trip at the Langley Events Centre. In their last two games, TWU has looked much like the squad that captured the regular season banner last season by allowing just three goals behind a stingy defence and strong goaltending from Silas Matthys (2-2-0-0, 3.51, .890) and Aaron Oakley (1-0-0-0, 2.00, 9.44). Mattias Schmitt and PJ Buys continue to anchor the Spartans top line with 15 points through 5 games.
University of Victoria (2-3-0-0, 4th Place):The Vikes will look to pull off a rare feat of leaving Castlegar with points as they face Selkirk College in back-to-back games Friday and Saturday. But UVic showed recently that they can skate with the 3-time defending BCIHL champs, topping the Saints by a 3-2 score on home ice in October. The trip represents a homecoming for former Nelson Leafs linemates Carsen Willans and Linden Horswill, who have continued an effective partnership at UVic to the tune of 6 goals and 15 points through 6 games.
