SFU announces return of all-time leading scorer Ceci for fifth season

He’s baaaaaaaack!

Simon Fraser University's offensive attack will be retaining it’s most lethal weapon, as all time leading scorer Jono Ceci will return for his 5th collegiate season.

He will be counted on to lead the team in the offensive zone, and provide veteran leadership for what will be a young squad. Collegiate athletes in Canadian schools are eligible to play for 5 seasons.

Jono enters the season only 10 points shy of the BCIHL all time points record which is currently held by Robert Vos and his 157 regular season points.

The 2014/15 season saw Ceci put up his lowest points total in the BCIHL as he battled through injuries during the season, however he still managed to put up 22 points in 18 games.

“His offensive output wasn’t up to his standards last season, so I expect him to be ready for a big year”, was SFU Head Coach Mark Coletta’s evaluation on the return of such an integral piece of SFU’s offence. ”I know what kind of player Jono is, and having him back is going to be very important for us as we may have 12 freshmen in the locker room.”

In an off-season that saw the Clan lose Nick Sandor, Taylor Piller, and Trent Murdoch up front, the return of the all-time leading scorer will help the Clan improve on their offensive output from last season, as well as provide a strong veteran presence to help new players adjust to the college game.

Jono will be skating with the team as training camp kicks off today at Kensington Arena in Burnaby. Jono will continue his pursuit of the BCIHL scoring record when the Clan kick off the 2015/16 season October 10th.
