Netminder Grummick commits to EWU from MNJHL's Rochester Ice Hawks

Eastern Washington University is pleased to announce a playing commitment from goaltender Corey Grummick (Olympia, WA) to joins the Eagles for the 2014/15 B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League season.

Grummick will join the Eagles after spending the last two seasons with the Rochester Ice Hawks of the Minnesota Junior Hockey League.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Grummick will follow a few of his former Ice Hawks teammates to EWU, including defenceman Tanner Hawes and fellow netminder Derek Moser.

The Eagles are losing multiple goaltenders to graduation this spring and the team has known that this coming season would see a big change in the nets for EWU.

"Corey is the type of guy we’ve been looking for going forward with his size and history of being able to play a lot of games as the #1," says Eagles head coach Bill Shaw.

The Eagles will lose four-year starter Jason Greenwell this spring and Shaw indicated that they had been looking for a workhorse who could play a similar role.

Grummick has gone 37-18-1 in the last two years in Rochester posting a 3.03 GAA and a .904 save percentage. Both seasons saw Grummick lead his team to the playoffs -- something the Eagles have been unable to do the last two seasons in the BCIHL.
