Friday night’s game was a must win for Simon Fraser University to keep their hopes for a first place finish alive. And it took a shootout to manage it, but the Clan prevailed over the University of Victoria with a road 3-2 win at the Ian Stewart Complex.
After a scoreless first, Victoria's Cody Mueller found the net first, assisted by Eli Weibe and Thomas Bruton. But as was the case last week, SFU was quick to respond with Trevor Esau tying it at one only a minute later, with assists from Jono Ceci and Mike Ball on the power-play.
The second period would be the only one to see any scoring as Victoria's Evan Warner and SFU's Kale Wild exchanged goals midway through.
SFU faced some close calls at the end of the third after Kale Wild sat out the final two minutes on an interference penalty. The feeling would be repeated again in the final minutes of overtime as Trent Murdoch took his turn in the box for boarding. The Clan killed off both penalties to send the game into a shootout.
Andrew Parent stopped two of Victoria's shooters while Robert Simmons could only stop one Clan shooter. Ceci scored the shootout winner for SFU.

The two points for SFU put the Burnaby boys back in first place. Second place Selkirk College still has one game to play Saturday night to regain their place at the top of the standings.
