Eastern Washington University goaltender Jason Greenwell has been named the British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League's Player of the Week for the week ending February 16th.
Needing a win to avoid being eliminated from the BCIHL playoff race, Eastern Washington turned to Greenwell on Saturday night for their home match-up against Trinity Western University. And the four-year veteran didn't disappoint, as he stopped 43 shots in a 4-2 victory.
Jamie Russell was the lone Spartans player to beat Greenwell during a 16-shot first period, while the 24-year old made 16 saves on 17 shots in the second. And with the score tied 2-2 through 40 minutes, Greenwell stopped all 12 shots he faced during the third period.
With the win, Greenwell snapped a lengthy winless streak and set a new seaosn-high for saves.
Runners up for this week's award include University of Victoria forward Luciano Somerville, Thompson Rivers University goaltender Mark Menicucci and Simon Fraser University forward Nick Sandor.
