Trinity Western University forward J.P. Villeneuve has been named the British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League's Player of the Week for the week ending January 26th.
Villeneuve matched a BCIHL season-high for goals in a single game when he struck for all five of the Spartans' markers in a 5-4 overtime win over the University of Victoria on Saturday afternoon.
Down 4-1 entering the third period, Villeneuve went to work and notched a natural hat trick to tie the score 4-4 and earn his team a valuable road point at the end of regulation. He then went one better in the OT frame, scoring his fifth of the day to earn TWU a weekend sweep over the sixth-place Vikes.
The former Powell River Kings standout also picked up a goal and an assist in Friday's 6-5 shootout victory to finish the weekend with six goals and seven points.
The 21-year old now sits eighth in league scoring with 15 goals and 26 points through 17 games.
Runners up for this week's award include Selkirk College forward Beau Taylor, University of Victoria forward Shawn Mueller and Simon Fraser University goaltender Andrew Parent.
