Simon Fraser University showed everyone at Memorial Arena why they're in top spot in the B.C. Intercollegiate hockey league standings on Friday night, defeating Thompson Rivers University by a 4-2 score on Friday Night.
The game was the first of a two-game homestand for TRU against SFU.
The Clan led 2-1 after the first period before the WolfPack pushed back in the second to tie up the game 2-2. Brandon Watson opened the scoring for TRU with an assist from Colton Schell.
In the second, Anthony Delong scored on a fine individual effort with assists going to Schell and Dayton Shaw.
SFU came out firing on all cylinders, outshooting the WolfPack 19-6 in the first 20 minutes and 40-21 for the game. The 'Pack's penalty kill units played fantastic killing all three penalties while capitalizing on 1 of 3 powerplays.
Once again hit with injury, TRU will now be down to four defenceman going into Saturday's game as Cameron Weir sustained a hip injury. The Pack’s lineup will see a forward converted to defence to make up for a lack of numbers on the blueline.
"We certainly had some distractions this week which was not a great way to prepare for the weekend that we embarked on," says TRU head coach Don Schulz. "We need to find a way to re-group and it's certainly within our capabilities to do it. Hopefully the guys get a good rest and are ready to go tomorrow."
The WolfPack will be back in action for the second game of this weekend's back-to-back series on Saturday night at Memorial Arena. Puck drop is set for 8:00 PM.
