Thompson Rivers University will embark on their first homestand of 2014 in the B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League this weekend when Selkirk College and Trinity Western University visit Kamloops Memorial Arena.
The WolfPack will host Selkirk on Friday night before entertaining the Spartans the next evening.
The 'Pack recorded a satisfying victory over Simon Fraser University last Saturday. That win has TRU currently sitting on top of the league standings in a three-way tie for first with Selkirk and SFU.
Friday's game against the Saints will be a first place battle and the atmosphere in Memorial Arena is bound to be tense.
"It's a rivalry that’s been building since the start of the year," head coach Don Schulz said. "Selkirk is certainly going to provide us a stiff test".
Trinity Western is going to be no less of a challenge for the 'Pack. Though they currently sit below TRU in the standings with a 5-8 record, the Spartans put up a good fight against the WolfPack in the first term. Trinity Western will surely play tough as they continue to fight for a playoff spot.
"It's another huge weekend and you just can't take anything for granted. Anybody can beat anybody. Hopefully based on what I've seen in practice we'll have our A-game and have some success this weekend," said Schulz.
TRU's three new recruits for the winter semester will all be back in the lineup this weekend. Dayton Shaw displayed his offensive punch in last weekend's game against SFU.
"He is certainly showing us why we recruited him," said Schulz. "This past SFU game I was pretty impressed on how well he played being his first collegiate game".
The WolfPack are looking to continue their success this weekend down at Memorial Arena. The opening faceoff on Friday night is set for 8:30 PM while on Saturday night the puck will drop at 8:00 PM.
