University of Victoria goaltender Nick Babich has been named the British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League's Player of the Week for the week ending December 1st.
Babich accomplished a B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League first on Saturday night in Burnaby, shutting out Simon Fraser University at the Bill Copeland Sports Centre. It was the first time in the league's seven-year history that the Clan were held off the scoreboard on their home ice.
The 22-year old stopped all 27 shots he faced in a 5-0 Vikes victory, including 19 during the first 40 minutes that allowed his teammates to build a 2-0 lead. UVic then scored a trio of goals in quick succesion in the third period to put the game out of reach.
Babich also started on Friday night, allowing three goals on 24 shots in a road loss to Thompson Rivers. His totals for the week included a 1-1 record with a 1.73 goals-against average and .941 save-percentage.
Runners up for this week's award include Thompson Rivers University forward Duncan Schulz, Selkirk College forward Logan Proulx and University of Victoria Mitchell Bell.
