Simon Fraser University is pleased to announce that High River, AB product Scott Brkich has committed to join the team for the second half of the 2013/14 B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League season.
Brkich spent the past two seasons with the UBC Thunderbirds (CIS). The 6-foot-4 defenceman transferred to SFU during the summer but was ineligible to play regular season games during the fall semester.
Brkich suited up for the Clan to face off against his old team during the 2013 University Hockey Classic - SFU vs UBC on September 27th & 28th.
"Scott will be a great addition to the defensive core. He's a big physical guy with a great shot," says SFU head coach Mark Coletta. "We'll look to lean on Scott in the spring as his CIS experience should make him one of the better defencemen in the BCIHL."
"SFU has a very deep squad this year that great potential to make a run at a championship and I’m just excited to come in and help contribute to that," says Brkich, who is a puck-moving defenceman with good vision in the offensive zone.
The newest member of SFU brings a wealth of experience to the squad, having played in 96 AJHL and 111 SJHL games during his junior career, putting up 62 points in that span.
Fans can see Brkich suit up against University of North Dakota and Princeton University on January 3rd & 4th, before making his regular season debut on January 11th against TRU.
