Winter has officially arrived in Kamloops as the Thompson Rivers University Hockey team heads south to Cheney, WA with the goal of grounding the EWU Eagles once again.
This will mark the third and fourth time TRU will take on Eastern Washington in the past five B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League games, as EWU was just in Kamloops earlier in the month for two games.
It was a road trip the Eagles wish they could forget, as TRU outscored their border rivals 15-3 over two games.
“We are looking for similar success this weekend,” head coach Don Schulz said. “I’m sure they are going to bounce back from the last time we saw them. Four points would be huge for us here.”
The WolfPack currently sit in second place in BCIHL standings with a 7-4 record.
The WolfPack have capitalized on every opportunity they have had during the softest part of their schedule. The WolfPack will enter Friday night’s game on a five-game win streak and with only three games left before their mid-season winter break.
The WolfPack might be enjoying the cushiest part of their season now, but they are about to go through the meat grinder in the New Year. Six of their remaining ten games in 2014 come against Simon Fraser University and Selkirk College.
After weeks of joking around and trying to read Schulz’s mind on the goaltending situation, he gives WolfPack fans and sports writers an early Christmas gift, having named a starting goalie for each remaining game heading into the break.
Barring injuries, Mark Menicucci will start Friday and Stephen Wolff will start Saturdayagainst EWU, while Chris Solecki will get the nod in the ‘Pack's final game before the break at home against Victoria.
The WolfPack will load up the bus and hit the road bright and early Friday morning. Both games will start at 7:00 PM local time Friday and Saturday night.
