Thompson Rivers University Hockey will march into Castlegar for a this weekend for a huge B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League a two game match-up against the defending league champion Selkirk College Saints.
Puck drop is set for 7:30 PM on Friday and Saturday.
The Saints are currently tied with the WolfPack atop the BCIHL standings with four points after opening their season with wins over Eastern Washington and the University of Victoria.
Selkirk badly outplayed the WolfPack last year, owning the season series with a 5-0 record while outscoring TRU by 22 goals.
"Last year we got off to a horrendous start," head coach Don Schulz said. "We had a lot of injuries and a few players not in the lineup due to academic suspension."
They WolfPack played the Saints much better in the second half of the season, as each game was close including an overtime loss.
This stretch of games is thought to be one of the toughest parts to the ‘Pack's schedule. They dropped last weekend’s Thanksgiving weekend game to Simon Fraser University 7-4.
"These games are definitely measuring stick games for us," Schulz said. "We figure that the league is going to come down to us three teams."
The WolfPack are going to have to bring their 'A' game all weekend down in the Kootenays and will have their hands full with the Saints' leading scorer Connor McLaughlin. McLaughlin had 27 points last year in 24 games and is already off to a great start this fall with four goals and three assists in two games.
This is a home-and-home series as the WolfPack’s next game at Memorial Arena is against Selkirk College on Friday, October 25th at 8:30 PM.
