The Thompson Rivers University Men's Hockey team took the wood to the University of Victoria Vikes 6-1 in their B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League season opener at the Ian Stewart Complex on Friday night.
Josh MacDonald is running away with the league scoring title after casually potting five goals in the contest. The WolfPack's top line of MacDonald, Duncan Schulz and Colton Schell was firing on all cylinders combining for twelve points.
The ‘Pack bust this game wide open during the second period as they jumped out to a 5-0 lead.
Stephen Wolff was a like a Chevy in net, “built like a rock.” He turned away 21 out of 22 shots he faced from the Vikes.
The game took over three hours to complete due to multiple Zamboni malfunctions in between periods. But that didn’t disrupt the WolfPack.
“It was a very encouraging win tonight for us,” head coach Don Schulz said. “When you have speed, physicality, strength on the puck, better physical fitness and overall good team play, it's easy. And we won’t lose many games when we click like that.”
Schulz is will take the night to think about his starting netminder for tomorrow’s game. The rematch is set for Saturday afternoon, 12:30 PM at the Ian Stewart Complex.
The WolfPack’s home opener is Friday October 4th at Memorial Arena when they entertain the Trinity Western University Spartans. Puck drop is 8:30 PM.
