Simon Fraser University is pleased to announce that Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League forward Pavlo Zerebecky has committed to join the team for the 2013/14 season.
Zerebecky is a defensively-minded forward who spent his past two seasons with the SJHL's La Ronge Ice Wolves. In 107 career games with the Wolves, Pavlo compiled 32 points and 67 penalty minutes.
SFU Head Coach Mark Coletta says speed is an essential part of every good team and he believes Pavlo brings just that. He speaks highly of the forward, stating: "he’s the type of guy who will give you 100 percent every time he steps on the ice, and you can never have enough of those guys."
Zerebecky describes himself as a "high energy defensive forward" and is eager to attend SFU "because of the strength and continuing improvement of the hockey program."
He also notes how his game has developed.
"In the past, I have proven to be more offensive but in the past two years of junior I took on more of a defensive role which has rounded off my game," he says.
When asked about his goals, Pavlo says: "On a team level I would like to win the BCIHL championship and also win our exhibition games against teams from other leagues. Winning those games will do wonders for the SFU hockey program. On a personal level I would like to earn a regular spot in the lineup, a special teams position, and to contribute offensively."
On moving to Western Canada, he says "being from Saskatchewan, Burnaby will be a nice change of scenery."
Zerebecky is the fourth player to commit to SFU for the 2013/14 season. Further announcements will be made in the coming weeks.
