Hawes commits to Eastern Washington from MNJHL's Rochester Ice Hawks

Eastern University Washington is pleased to announce that defenceman Tanner Hawes (Snohomish, WA) has committed to the Eagles for the 2013/14 B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League season.

The 6-foot-1, 185 pound defender joins Eastern after finishing his junior hockey career with the Minnesota Junior Hockey League's Rochester Ice Hawks, where he picked up 25 points in 44 regular season games.

Hawes totaled 75 points in 137 games over the previous three seasons spent with the Seattle Totems.

"Tanner is the type of player we've been looking to add on the back end," says Eagles head coach Bill Shaw. "He's a mobile guy that can help us clear our zone and contribute in the offensive zone."

Hawes' commitment builds on the Eagles goal to keep Washington products in the state rather than going back east. He already knows some faces in the EWU locker room, having played with Eagles senior Kjell Sherman and against Alec Burks and Zach Maxwell.

Hawesis the second player from the MNJHL to commit to EWU this offseason and the fifth overall. More signings are expected in the coming weeks.
