Former Langley Rivermen star commits to Selkirk College for 2013/14 season

Selkirk College Men's Hockey

The Selkirk College Saints Men's Hockey program is pleased to announce a commitment from forward Darnell Dyck (Chilliwack, B.C.) to attend Selkirk College and compete for the Saints beginning in the 2013/14 B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League season.

Dyck is returning to the West Kootenays after spending the 2009/10 season with the Trail Smoke Eaters. He played a total of four seasons in the British Columbia Hockey League and enjoyed his greatest success with the Langley Rivermen, where he scored 19 goals and led the team with 65 points in 60 games during the 2011/12 campaign.

Overall, Dyck netted 54 goals and 163 points in 230 BCHL games.

The 21-year old spent the 2012/13 season at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri, where he helped lead the Lions to an appearance in the American Collegiate Hockey Association’s National Championship Game. He finished third on the team in goals and fifth in points with 10 and 21 respectively in 23 games and led all Lions freshmen in both categories.

"We're thrilled to be adding an impact offensive player like Darnell to a very strong group of returning forwards," says Saints head coach Jeff Dubois. "We were active in trying to recruit Darnell out of the BCHL last summer and I was very pleased when he reconnected with an interest in playing closer to home. He's already spent a year competing against college-aged players and I'm sure he’ll be a valuable and productive player in our league."

Dyck plans to continue to study Business, which was his focus over the past year at Lindenwood.

"I've heard nothing but good things about Selkirk College and the Saints hockey program," says Dyck, who describes himself as a creative playmaker and a solid two-way player. "It isn't a hard decision when you have the opportunity to play for a championship team. I want to do everything I can to help the team have another successful season on and off the ice and keep the winning tradition going in Castlegar."

Dyck is Selkirk’s fifth commitment for the 2013/14 season, joining forward Garrett Kucher (Osoyoos, KIJHL), defencemen Stefan Gonzales (Aldergrove, PJHL) and Ryan Procyshyn (Delta, PJHL) and goaltender Myles Hovdebo (LaRonge, SJHL).
