The British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League has announced its league award winners and all-stars for the 2012/13 season. Winners were selected in a vote conducted by BCIHL coaches.
MOST VALUABLE PLAYER - Jordan Wood, Selkirk College
Wood's second season with the Saints was wildly successful both in terms of personal and team accomplishments. The 22-year old led all BCIHL scorers with 43 regular season points, including 19 goals and 24 assists. The Selkirk captain also led his team to a 21-3-0 record, breaking previous records for wins and points in a season.
TOP DEFENCEMAN - Kam Crawford, Selkirk College
Crawford was one of the league's best and most versatile blueliners as a BCIHL rookie. He led all defencemen in assists (19) and points (24) while also anchoring a Selkirk defence corps that allowed a BCIHL-low 62 goals during the regular season. The 21-year old also quarterbacked a Saints power-play that scored a league-high 35 goals.
TOP GOALTENDER - Alex Sirard, Selkirk College
Sirard's first season in the BCIHL began with 11 consecutive victories as the former WHL netminder helped the Saints to a league-record winning streak. He finished the year with a 13-1-0 record and was the only goaltender in the league to crack double-digits in wins. His 2.55 goals-against average led all netminders with five or more starts on the season.
MOST SPORTSMANLIKE PLAYER - Elliott Martin, Eastern Washington University
EWU's second-year forward was a key offensive contributor for the Eagles with 8 goals and 16 points in 24 games played. The 22-year old also exemplified sportsmanship and dedication throughout the season and avoided a trip to the penalty box until the third period of the season's final regular season game when he was flagged for tripping.
COACH OF THE YEAR - Jeff Dubois, Selkirk College
Dubois turned around a Saints program that finished 2011/12 in last place with a 5-19-0 record and had won a total of just 13 games in five previous seasons. The former SFU general manager led the Saints to a 21-3-0 regular season record and set new league marks for wins and points in a season despite icing a roster that included just four returning players.
