The British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League has unveiled its award winners for the month of February.
Player of the Month - Shawn Mueller, University of Victoria Mueller dominated during the month of February to a degree rarely seen in the BCIHL. The 20-year old scored 12 goals and added five assists in eight games to help the Vikes secure the league fourth and final playoff spot. He posted a four-goal game at Trinity Western on February 2nd and closed out the season with a hat trick against the Spartans. His 17-point month lifted him into a tie for second in BCIHL scoring.
Defenceman of the Month - Blair Murphy, Trinity Western University Murphy was at his most productive in the closing month of the season, as he increased his overall points total from 5 to 13. The 21-year old scored once and added seven assists in eight games and made substantial offensive contributions in wins over the University of Victoria on Feb. 1st (one goal, one assist) and Simon Fraser University on Feb. 15th (three assists), helping the Spartans make a late playoff push.
Goaltender of the Month - Jason Greenwell, Eastern Washington University Eastern Washington fell just short of a BCIHL playoff berth, but you can't fault Greenwell after a series of stellar performances. The Spokane, WA product picked up a victory in a must-win game against UVic on Feb. 8th and went on to post back-to-back victories over Selkirk College, delivering the Saints two of their three regular season losses. Greenwell finished the month with a 3-2 record, 3.21 goals-against average and .919 save-%.
Rookie of the Month - Tyler Jackson, Thompson Rivers University Jackson was a key to the WolfPack's late-season surge, picking up five goals and eight assists in eight games to close out the regular season. The 21-year old delivered three points in a road win over UVic on Feb. 16th that solidified TRU's hold on third place and added another three points the following Friday night at home to Selkirk. Jackson's 13-point month moved him into 17th place in the BCIHL regular season scoring.
