Thompson Rivers University WolfPack has virtually sewn up third place in the B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League after rebounding to take the hometown University of Victoria Vikes by a 7-5 score on Saturday.
The victory meant that TRU wins the regular season series over the defending BCIHL champions by 3 games to 1.
"Offensively, we played very well," said WolfPack head coach Don Schulz "Defensively, we were a little harried and that gives us something to work on heading into the playoffs."
Thompson Rivers have three games left in the regular season including one on Friday, February 22nd at Memorial Arena against the first place Selkirk College (8:30 pm puck drop).
In this game, the WolfPack were up 4-2 after the first period and led 7-5 after two periods.
Riley Wall stopped 37 shots in goal for Thompson Rivers, who fired 42 at the Victoria net.
Offensively, Nathan Michaels and Tyler Jackson each had two goals a piece. while Jackson added an assist. Other goals for TRU came from Anthony Delong, Alessio Tomassetti and Duncan Schulz.
"We focused on discipline and it was a good victory for us," the WolfPack coach added. "We got two goals on the power play tonight and our penalty killing was good."
