Thompson Rivers University plays their fourth game in a five-game homestand on Friday when league leaders Selkirk College Saints visit Memorial Arena at 8:30 PM.
The WolfPack currently sitsin third place in the BCIHL standings with a 7-8-0-1 record thanks to a successful four-point weekend against Eastern Washington. Selkirk has an almost perfect record with only a single loss.
"From a confidence point of view the three-game win streak at home will be working in our favour," said TRU head coach Don Schulz. "I like to believe that we're a team on the rise, and so do the players, but we can always get better."
With high hopes to make it a fourth, TRU is hoping that Selkirk's leading scorers, Jordan Wood (30pts in 15 games) and Logan Prouix (26pts in 15 games) won’t stand in the way.
TRU has their own strong forwards who are high point-scorers in the BCIHL. Alessio Tomassetti has a 26-point total in 16 games so far this season while linemate Colten DeFrias has contributed to the ‘Packs success with 22 points of his own in 14 games.
Schulz was impressed with both of the boys’ strong game play last weekend and throughout the season has looked to them as leaders of the team’s offence. This weekend should be no exception.
At practice this week the focus is on special teams. The ‘Pack will examine the transitions of all three zone systems to work out any kinks and prepare for seamless flowing hockey to maintain speed and momentum in their favour for a full 60 minutes.
Alternate captain Cody Rose and Duncan Schulz are both nursing upper body injuries and may be forced to sit it out and cheer on their teammates.
"This weekend is a major opportunity," says Schulz. "But it is also a major challenge because they are the first place hockey club for a reason."
