Wood, Swaffield, Babich & Tomassetti take BCIHL monthly awards for Nov.

The British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League has unveiled its award winners for the month of November.

Player of the Month - Jordan Wood, Selkirk College

Wood tied for the league lead during November with 12 points while continuing to maintain top spot in the BCIHL scoring race with 26. The second-year forward was especially strong on a two-game road trip to TRU and SFU, combining for five points in a pair of Selkirk victories. The 22-year old captain has also provided great leadership for a Saints squad that closed out the fall by tying a BCIHL record with 12 straight wins.

Defenceman of the Month - Taylor Swaffield, Simon Fraser University

SFU's newest assistant captain took charge at both ends of the ice during the month, picking up seven points in six games while also leading the Clan defence corps in their own zone. Swaffield netted a trio of two-point outings, all in SFU wins, while playing big minutes each night out due to a depleted blueline that often featured just four healthy bodies in November.

Goaltender of the Month - Nick Babich, University of Victoria

After the defending Vikes got off to a slow start to begin the season, Babich helped his team rebound in a big way in November. The rookie netminder won all three of his starts on the month, including a huge 26-save performance that helped UVic to a 3-2 overtime win over SFU. The 21-year old finished the month with a 2.94 goals-against average and .913 save-percentage in four appearances.

Rookie of the Month - Alessio Tomassetti, Thompson Rivers University

Tomassetti climbed the BCIHL scoring charts rapidly in November, tying for the league lead in points on the month by scoring six goals and adding six assists. The former Merritt Centennial and Kamloops Storm centre boosted those totals with a five-point night against EWU on Nov. 16th and netted multi-point nights on two other occasions.
