UVic win fourth in five games, topping Eastern Washington 4-3 on the road

The University of Victoria continued their November hot streak on Friday night, topping Eastern Washington by a 4-3 score to capture their fourth win in five tries on the month.

After falling behind early in the first period on a shorthanded marker by EWU forward Ryan Pajimola, the Vikes rebounded to take a lead into intermission with goals from Taylor Hache and Dennis Pavlina.

The teams traded goals during a back-and-forth second period, beginning with Elliott Martin drawing the Eagles even at the 13:40 mark of the frame. Brett Orser briefly restored the Vikes' lead minutes later, only to see Max Delance reply for the hosts with 9:20 remaining.

UVic scoring leader Shawn Mueller capped the period with the eventual game winner off a set-up from linemates Dennis Pavlina and Evan Warner. The Eagles outshot their visitors by a 12-3 margin in the third period but couldn't beat Vikes netminder Robert Simmons, who picked up his first BCIHL win with a 32-save performance.

Cash Ulrich was dealt the loss in net for EWU, allowing four goals on 29 shots.

With the win, Victoria's record hits the .500 mark for the first time this season. The Vikes now sit third in the BCIHL standings with a record of 5-5-1. Eastern, meanwhile, has struggled to a record of two wins and six losses in the month of November, sinking the Eagles to fifth in the league.

UVic concludes their fall semester schedule on Saturday night with a trip to Selkirk College. Faceoff is set for 7:30 PM from the Castlegar Recreation Complex.
